Easy on the i team up with Mencap and the Yorkshire Ambulance Service!
Easy on the i have been working with Mencap and the Yorkshire Ambulance Service to develop a new communication guide to help people with a learning disability in need of ambulance assistance.
The guide, which will be carried in ambulance vehicles, has been produced to help put patients at their ease and offer additional support with communication. The guide contains useful advice to help staff communicate with people with a learning disability, and a dictionary of easy on the i images covering the sorts of procedures, equipment and questions people may face when they use an ambulance. Staff will offer the use of the images as a choice to patients who find communication difficult.
Yorkshire Ambulance Service worked closely with its partners to ensure that the guide would be useful and cover as many situations as possible. Mencap helped with writing and getting the project off the ground, while Easy on the i developed the symbols in consultation with people with a learning disability, to ensure they are easy to understand.
The guide was launched at the Wakefield Learning Disability Partnership Board ‘Getting It Right-Passports to Success’ event on June 26th 2013.
